We want to tell about our Fourth of July. First, an important question: Does the United Kingdom have a Fourth of July?
Yes, they do! It's just a normal day to them, though, while it's our Independence Day in the United States! Of course, the only ones fooled by that question are Americans, and many of our beary buddies come from the UK.
Anywayz, today was our Independence Day, but it was rainy, so we didn't get to see any fireworks. That's OK though, since our baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies will have their fireworks next week.
We usually have a picnic in the garden, so we had to imp…imp…imp-probeyes…ummm, we had to figure out how to do that on a rainy day! Our Daddies helpeded us grill hotdogs between rain showers, while our mommies and sisters set up the picnic table underneath the BIG picnic table umbrella. Of course, Grandpa Axlerod joined us, but Grandpa John and Grandma stayeded inside, since they couldn't sit on the table with us to keep dry. They had salmon that Grandpa John grilled on our Foreman's Grill. Can you imagine not having hotdogs on Independence Day? So unAmerican!!!
After dinner and a nap, we watched the different concerts from different parts of the country, but, since we had misseded the one Grandma told us about in Boston, the rest were kinda boring! The one in Boston has a conert with their orchestra, and plays the Lone Ranger's theme. (Grandma wants us to say it's or-rige-enal name is "The 1812 Overture," which has absolutely nothing to do with American Independence, except that it is a twib-boot to another country's battle.) In the music, they have to ring BIG church bells at one part and real cannons in another. Kinda makes everything else feel boring, if you miss it.
Good thing Grandma understood, so she found the best version on YouTube. We have to tell – the original was written to remember a battle in Russia with Napolean's army (they were French.) No one won the battle that day, but it was considered a victory, a'cuz no one stopped the French until then. The French retreated to Russia's captial, but no one was home, so they left. It was later that another Russian ruler asked for a com-poh-sison (music). It was never played as written until after the composer and the Russian ruler died. This is Japan doing a version with really big cannons! See?! Nothing to do with America, except we love LOUD!!! It made us smile, and, like usual, Grandma teareded up.
We're beary lucky. Even though it rained it didn't rain on our celebration! Kehehehehehe Get it? Get it?
