Right after Mother’s Day, as we were busy climbing bushes and trees with our kids, in our park, we had a mostest interesting talk ‘bout how we thought our wives and our Mommy likeded their Mother’s Day, followeded quickly (we never did get to answer their question completely), ‘bout what Father’s Day is a’posed to be like. We weren’t thinking too hard ‘bout the talk, cuz our daughters were busy showing off new moves they invented in tree tops, and, like all good daddies, we were running right underneath them, in case they fell.
Meanwhile, our sons said they had just gone back over some of our old entries in our blog, and had some questions about what we wrote for Father’s Day last year. (You're going to have to read it to figure out what we're talking about for this Father's Day.)
Now, we weren’t thinking clearly with all that watching and running we did, but our kids are here to remind us of the question and answer session they put us through, while we weren’t noticing much of it.
Our daughters, Dee and Tine: We were showing our new moves on purpose, so our daddies would be too busy to notice our brother's questions!
Our sons, Ding and Tee: We were also asking questions about our two Grandpas (Grandpa John, our People’s grandpa, and Grandpa Axelrod, our Stuffed Doggy grandpa), so our daddies would think we were helping them plan for their Father’s Day, just in case Tine and Dee weren’t distracting our daddies enough.
All four kids: It's hard to tell in their last entry if they likeded their Father's Day last year, so we needed to find out what they liked and didn't like. After all of our worrying and planning, ends up they liked everything, BUT wouldn't have minded if they didn't have to do any work, even finding someone else to grill their dinners. They also liked their shoe ties, but don't wear the shoes enough to get them more ties!
To prepare for the date, we also asked Grandpa Ax and Grandpa John, if they liked their day. Grandpa Ax loved his five cans of Dinty Moore Stew. (He likes hotdogs, but he's a doggy, so likes to know "Where's the beef?") Grandpa John kindly reminded us that he and Grandma do like hotdogs, but hotdogs don't like them – they're actually bad for their health! Amazing, but we do listen, so already knew that. He also does like to do the cooking, especially now that we have plenty of homegrown herbs, so would enjoy a couple of salmon steaks for the grill for dinner. (He's easy to cook for. Tehehehehehehe)
OK, Daddies, we s'plained how sneaky we were for your Father's Day, now you two can tell how THIS year's Dather's Day went for you! We'll listen!
****************
We woke up to a sofa of jumping stuffies and dolls – not just our kids, but our wives, Axlerod, Pez, Star Bear (he's been up here since Christmas, when Mommy (accidentally) dropped him behind the sofa, so now that he has been found, he is helping Ax and Pez draw a picture in the garden journal), the neighbor stuffies, and the dolls. (Raggedy Ann had to be careful still, as Mommy keeps having to do other projects – like help us draw pictures – so doesn't have her new legs on yet. They're sewed up, just need to operate on her to put her legs on properly. The socks are holding her legs together though, so she's able to walk, and, apparently jump carefully on top of us for Father's Day. Kehehehehe)
Everyone was bouncing us all over the sofa, as they sang, "Happy, happy Father's Day" to the tune of "The Lone Ranger Theme." (Mommy asked us to add that its original name is "The William Tell Overture," for those, who don't remember The Lone Ranger. We had to ask, "if they can't remember back to The Lone Ranger, how will they remember farther back, for 'The William Tell Overture?'" She laughed?! Then she suggested that we add that it could also be called "The Mom Song." That one everyone should know! If you don't yet, here's the video.)
Mommy helped our kids make our cards. (The kids do the actual drawing and writing, but, with Mommy helping, they don't have to take a long walk to get the next colored pencil, since Mommy's artist kit is so big, even for her!)
We gave Daddy and Axlerod a funny Father's Day card. We can't tell you what it said, because this is a G rated blog, and that gets a little iffy – just "a little bathroom humor," at least, that's what Mommy calls it. (It's about making sounds AND odors in the woods. YES! They can be heard AND smelled by all animals in the woods! )

We were lucky enough to get the same omelette, minus the extract of malt! Tigger didn't want to waste his favoritest food, if we didn't love it as much as he did, so he gave us something he knew we'd like – HOTDOGS!!! He wasn't insulted, when he read that we weren't keen on his addition, he told us, but he worked hard on picking something he knew we'd like.
And, our sons did know we liked their grape leaves last year, but, being adventurous, and listening so much to their moms and sisters (the Garden Gals) talking about the different plants they were growing that were edible, they decided to go for a different ingredient – Malabar Spinach! Our Auntie Rosemary gave us some seeds a couple of Christmases ago, and, although the Garden Gals carefully collected seeds to grow more this year, one seed sowed itself, and one is big enough to use already! Ding and Tee were so pleased that they knew what it was, and picked it for us. Still our adventurous sons, and they used something that proved they do listen to the gals – something that pleases us!
Quite the yummy omelette, and they divided it into thirds, so we got what we like, Ax got what he liked (Dinty Moore Stew, and shared his with Pez and Star Bear), and Daddy got what he liked! (Our wives added herbs and bunching onions, especially knowing how much Daddy likes omelettes for breakfast, and loves homegrown produce in his from our garden!) We felt a bit strange not making Daddy and Ax's breakfast, but they understood this is our day, also.
We were all allowed to do something after breakfast that all daddies (and stuffies) enjoy greatly – take a nap.
This afternoon was different though! Our family gave us a perfect sized football! (We'd show you, but it's late and dark, so our sons are sleeping with it.) We discovered, after playing catch with our family, that everyone likes it, too! Each one has had some time to hold it, play with it, and see how far they can kick it. We're already developing the ESPN required to turn around and catch the misguided kicked football, before it hits us in the back of the head! Even Mommy is getting good at it (although she doesn't catch well, just avoids it hitting her in the head), since she's a girl! Our daughters wanted to make a dress for the football, and call it Baby Doll Baby. (Both have their own dolls. Dee named hers "Baby Doll," so when Tine came along and got her own doll, she named hers
oll Baby." We now have to kiss the dolls after we kiss our daughters, before they go to bed. Our sons Action Figures are NOT allowed to be kissed.) Our sons made sure we convinced our daughters that footballs should never wear clothes or be considered dolls. Anyway, we got a real present on Father's Day! And it's a really cool one, too!
Now, Daddy did make some salmon steaks with maple syrup on the grill for Mommy and his dinner, but we didn't make hotdogs for ours! Our sons grilled hotdogs for everyone, who can eat them, and we had a wonderful Father's Day dinner, outside in our garden!
After dinner, we watched our beary own DVD about Paddington Bear. We've had the DVD for a while, so it wasn't a Father's Day gift, but, for two beary loved Teddy Bear daddies, it was the perfect ending to the perfect day. And Axlerod and our Daddy like the movie too, so all four of us daddies had a perfect Father's Day, and we didn't even have to make something!
Happy Father's Day!
